SEBIO Investor Forum AgBio Panel Announced

Southeast BIO is pleased to announce a featured panel entitled “Innovation and Investing: Trends in AgBio” to be held on November 15 at the Southeast BIO Investor and Partnering Forum in Pinehurst, NC. The panel will feature the following individuals:

An experienced biotechnology innovator, Kelly Smith has returned to the entrepreneurial community after serving as Head of Pasteuria Bioscience for Syngenta Crop Protection. She was a co-founder of Pasteuria Bioscience, where she was principally responsible for development of the proprietary Pasteuria manufacturing process. She served most recently as CTO prior to acquisition by Syngenta. Prior to Pasteuria Bio she worked in research and development for Entomos, Inc., developing an early version of the Pasteuria fermentation process, and Hercules Chemical, developing biocides and biological diagnostics for the paper industry.

Derek Norman joined Syngenta Ventures in 2009 as one of the founding members. Prior to Syngenta, he was with Hatteras Venture Partners, which invests primarily in early stage companies with a focus on biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostics, healthcare IT, and related opportunities in human medicine. Before joining Hatteras, Derek worked at Dean & Co., a strategy consulting firm. Derek serves as a director on the boards of AgriMetis. He was an observer to the board of Marrone Bio Innovations prior to its IPO in 2013.

Ken Woody is President, Chief Executive Officer, Partner, General Partner, and Executive Director at Innova Memphis Inc. Ken leads a dedicated staff focused on finding, funding and growing startup technology businesses in Tennessee to help them achieve commercial success. Woody was instrumental in starting TECworks. He served the United States Armed Forces as a U.S. Army Captain, Infantry and General Aide-de-Camp. He worked for GE for over 16 years, serving as a Vice President and General Manager in their Healthcare and Capital businesses. He served as Vice President of Sales for DePuy Spine before 2004. Mr. Woody served as Senior Vice-President for Global Sales with Smith & Nephew Orthopedics. Mr. Woody serves on the Advisory Board for the FedEx Institute of Technology at the University of Memphis and on the Tennessee Biotechnology Association Board. He serves on the Entrepreneur Advisory Council at Vanderbilt University’s Center for Technology Transfer and Commercialization, and as a Board Member at Tech 20/20.

The panel will be moderated by John Dombrosky. As CEO of AgTech Accelerator, John brings to the company more than 20 years of finance, business development and general management experience. Mr. Dombrosky’s AgTech experience includes balancing a variety of executive management, innovation-centric roles at Syngenta including ag biolicensing, intellectual property litigation valuations, mergers and acquisitions, and profit and loss management. As head of Americas Professional Products, Mr. Dombrosky drove business-to-business marketing tactics, strategy and business development for professional and consumer-facing pest management businesses.
