ATLANTA, Georgia (September 13, 2012) – Innovative drug therapies, advanced medical devices, diagnostics and other cutting-edge healthcare technologies from throughout the Southeast will be showcased October 31 and November 1 during the 2012 Southeast BIO Investor Forum at the Breakers in Palm Beach, FL.
Entrepreneurs representing 24 of the most promising bioscience and medical technology companies in the region will solicit advice and seek venture capital during the annual life science convention sponsored by Southeast BIO (SEBIO), the regional nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering the growth of the Southeast’s life sciences industry.
Eight MAIN/Stage presenters and 16 EARLY/Stage companies were picked by a selection committee of regional and national venture capitalists. Seven each were from Florida and North Carolina, five from Georgia, two from South Carolina, and one each from Alabama, Kentucky and Texas.
The MAIN/Stage presenting companies have generally completed at least one round of institutional financing and will each have the opportunity to make a 10-minute pitch to the full conference audience on the afternoon of October 31.
Those companies chosen for the EARLY/Stage event are seeking their first rounds of venture capital and/or angel investment. During the Investor Forum, the companies will participate in a private advisory session led by active early-stage investors, entrepreneurs and experienced life science managers and service providers.
Four EARLY/Stage companies will be selected to present to the full conference audience, and an overall “winner” will be announced at the closing lunch.
“We will be hearing presentations from 24 interesting companies who are pursuing a very broad range of important innovations in the healthcare field,” said Douglas Reed, Chair of the SEBIO Selection Committee and General Partner at Hatteras Venture Partners.
Since 1999, companies that have participated in the SEBIO Investor Forum have raised more than $2.5 billion in public and private offerings, making it the region’s most successful venue for linking industry investors with the Southeast’s top life science and medical technology companies.
