DURHAM, NC – Duke University has received a $139 million grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

The money will go to the Duke Center for HIV/AIDS Vaccine Immunology-Immunogen Discovery (CHAVI-ID), with hopes of discovering effective vaccines against HIV.

Duke’s Dr. Barton Haynes will oversee the seven-year grant, as he previously led the original Center for HIV/AIDS Vaccine Immunology (CHAVI) consortium.

Duke will receive $19.9 million for the first year of the program beginning this month.
